Yakima Humane Society Back-To-Back Champions!
They Did It!
For the first time in history (to the best I can find), there has been a back-to-back champion for the annual March Muttness national fundraising campaign!
And the 2-time history-making champions are the hard-working crew and all the animals at the Yakima Humane Society!
This is amazing!
What Is March Muttnesss?
March Muttness is the annual virtual fundraiser that is an amazing (friendly) competition between animal shelters across the country.
Raising money for their respective shelters and, more importantly, bringing awareness about shelters that work so hard taking care of and finding homes for our four-legged friends!
The Yakima Humane Society made history last year by being the ‘Top Dog’ and winning the 2024 competition.
When the event kicked off at the beginning of March, there was hope that YHS would make history and be back-to-back champs.
Then word came that our city’s shelter was Final Four bound, made all of our Yakima Valley tails (actual and figurative) wag!
Then, the final competition took place on Saturday, March 29th! And the Yakima Humane Society won! And won big!
After the smoke had cleared, The Yakima Humane Society won with a whopping $28, 237 dollars beating out Cody’s Friends, Inc. (Arizona) by just shy of $10,000.

In total, with all of the animal shelters participating in March Muttness, the virtual fundraiser raised over $49,700 dollars. For more of a breakdown, click here.
A Message from The Yakima Humane Society!
After the dust had settled and Yakima claimed the championship victory, they took to their social media with words of thanks!
“No words can express our gratitude for this incredible community and historic achievement of back-to-back March Muttness National Championships that you made possible! Thank you, Yakima!”
- YHS Facebook page.
They went on to thank their friends in Ellensburg for their support, and everyone outside of Central Washington for their support for Yakima.
No word on what the plan is for the funds raised, but it promises to be something BIG, with more information to come!
Even though the Yakima Humane Shelter has achieved a great victory, help and volunteers are always needed, and pets are always in need of a forever home! For more information on how you can do your part, visit YakimaHumane.org.
