Yakima’s JoAnn Fabrics Is Gone—What Comes Next?
With businesses shutting down left and right, that leaves empty holes in our community. Empty buildings in our neighborhoods. But with those vacant spots can spring growth, opportunities, and something new. We have that very opportunity in the heart of Yakima at 3702 Tieton Dr.
When the JoAnn Fabrics company started closing its doors earlier this year, the crafting community was left with their jaws dropped. Now the letters that graced the storefront in Yakima for years have finally come down, leading the way for something new. But what will it be?
We have some ideas that could fit that giant retail location perfectly.
7 Businesses That Would Fit Nicely at 3702 Tieton Dr. in Yakimakings
(Non-Asian) Buffet Restaurant
It's been a while since we had a big buffet restaurant on this side of town. The last one I remember was King's Table / Royal Fork back in the early 90's before Hollywood Video took over the building that is now the home for Verizon & WaFd Bank.
All Inclusive Nerd Store
Yakima has a great selection of nerd and hobby shops. Ones that cater to comics, gaming (video, tabletop, cards), miniatures, anime, and manga, etc. But what about a store that has all those under one roof? The closest I can think of is something like Adventures Underground in Tri-Cities.
Trader Joe's
Yeah, the battle cry of "Bring Trader Joe's to Yakima" is still being shouted by many in the valley. This would be a fine site for it.

Strip Club
Much like the Trader Joe's battle cries, there is also a desire to see a strip club open up in Yakima. You could even make comparisons about stores closing due to Amazon, due to the lack of strip clubs, because of OnlyFans. We need to get those brick-and-mortar (and pole) businesses back up!
Chuck E. Cheese Arcade
It was just announced that Chuck E. Cheese would be opening up adult-only arcades in select states. Why not Washington? Why not Yakima? Why not 3702 Tieton Dr.?
A 'Daily Deals' Type Liquidation Store
Yes, a Daily Deals store was in that same complex, but it ended up moving. As I'm not sure of the exact reason, I've heard rumors that it was due to a conflict with JoAnn's, something we don't have to worry about now.
