Yakima Nob Hill Construction: When Will It Finally Be Done?
If Nob Hill Blvd is part of your daily commute, you’ve been like me and frustrated for the past several months. What are they doing, and more importantly, when is it going to be done? We have some hopeful answers below.
Yakima Driving Pains
Going to work every morning around 5:30 am, I have a daily battle in my mind. Chancing 32nd Ave and risking an 8-point turn if the intersection on Nob Hill is closed or not, or just taking the long way to 24th Ave. to Washington Ave.

At the time of this writing, the light-up sign announces that the intersection will be closed… but the dates shown are several weeks old.

Driving home is kind of fun, wondering which lane I will need to be in as soon as possible, and then cussing out loud when it turns out I’m in the wrong one, and no one is letting me merge. But luckily it won’t be like this forever (we hope).
The Reason For The Nob Hill Construction
According to the City of Yakima’s website, the water main is being replaced, as well as sidewalk repairs. When they’re done with the water main, the roadway will go through grinding and paving, so according to the plan, when it is all done, it should be nice and smooth. But when will it be done?

Right now, the project is projected to continue through October, but it can go longer depending on weather and other daily conditions and unforeseen circumstances.
When push comes to shove, I understand it needs to be done, and am grateful for the Yakima crews who are working hard to get it done. Avoid the area if possible, and if not, drive slow, give the workers the space they need.
