Maybe you could use another family member around the table this Thanksgiving. Maybe a ‘Friend’ to help clean up anything you might have dropped on the floor. A Thanksgiving guest who won’t start an argument by bringing up politics or questionable life choices.

Having A Pet At The Holidays

I’ve had my little dog (pictured above), Rusty for about 14 years now. That is 14 years of thankful Thanksgivings, joyous Christmases, and loud and annoying Independence Days. And I can’t imagine a single day, let alone a holiday, without hearing the tap tap taps of his little feet running around my Yakima house.

You could have that type of family member, that kind of ‘Friend

Yakima Humane Society’s ‘Friend’

I’ve used ‘Friend’ several times in this article, because that is this particular dog’s name, Friend. When I saw his photo and story of the 4-year-old Rottie-Mix in my social media feed, I wanted to help spread the word.

He’s had a rough life, left alone, tied up for hours with no shelter, no companionship, no care. But through it all, Friend still has a gentle, very loving heart.

“When he came to us, he was a little worn down by life, but he’s quickly shown his soft, cuddly side. He loves belly rubs, snuggles, and being near people, and his heart is huge, his loyalty unmatched, and he’s ready to finally have the life he deserves.” – YHS

For more information about Friend, or many of the other pets that are looking for a new home this Thanksgiving or Christmas, visit YakimaHumane.org.

If you’d like to help out in any way, via a donation of food, supplies, money, or even your time, they could use all the help they can get.

Getting a pet is a huge responsibility, but it is also a huge blessing.
