Trouble Breathing? Freezing Fog, Stagnant Air to Blame in Yakima

Here we are, half of the way through January, and while there's certainly no heatwave happening, daytime temperatures will reach into the mid and upper '40s in the next week.

In the meantime, more of what we've come to expect this time of year is in our immediate forecast.

Weather Advisories for Stagnant Air & Freezing Fog in Yakima Valley

The National Weather Service has issued advisories for our area that you should be aware of for the next 72 hours.

Yakima Freezing Fog Advisory is in Effect

There is a Freezing Fog Advisory in effect through at least Noon on Saturday, January 15th, as issued by the National Weather Service. Visibility during this time could be less than a quarter-mile, even a few hundred feet in some areas. This, of course, makes driving more difficult and motorists are well-advised to exercise extreme caution in affected areas. These conditions can also make roadways more slick and dangerous.

Yakima County Stagnant Air Advisory is in Effect

We reported earlier this week that the Yakima Clean Air Agency issued a Stage 2 Burn Ban. The Stagnant Air Advisory until Noon Monday, January 17, which has been issued by the National Weather Service underscores the reason for the burn ban.

People with respiratory illness should follow their physician`s advice for dealing with high levels of air pollution during periods of stagnant air.
