The Yakima Health District is reporting a COVID-19 outbreak at the Union Gap Costco store. Over the last week at least 68 staff members have tested positive for the virus. District officials have been working with the store to make sure that all staff members who are positive are isolated and that all guidelines are being followed. A news release from the district says Costco is currently conducting widespread testing of employees. Dr. Larry Jecha, Interim Health Officer at the Yakima Health District says “the Yakima Health District conducted a site visit on December 23, 2020 and concluded that there was not an increased risk of COVID-19 transmission to the public so long as staff and customers continue to follow safety precautions.”
He says all community members should take safety precautions as if they, and others, may already be infected with the COVID-19 virus.
