There's a pretty popular Facebook page asking to bring Trader Joe's to Yakima. Trader Joe's would be nice, but I'd also love to have a Five Guys Burgers and Fries. Once upon a time when someone wanted something, they'd have a petition. Many still do. The petition involves going door to door asking for signatures or standing on a busy street corner or store entrance. asking people passing by to sign what they believe in. Now people just lazily make a Facebook page. Why? Because it works and is far better about getting your point across. Does mean the store you want to open will open any quicker, or at all, but it's nice to get a community of people to share ideas. Who knows, maybe if there's a young entrepreneur who sees that thousands upon thousands of local people want a specific store that person will opt to open a store locally.

So, not that a lot of 'likes' will actually bring a Trader Joe's or Five Guys Burger and Fries to Yakima, but it doesn't hurt and, best of all, liking something on Facebook is free.
