Costco Optical Temporarily Closed
You've been hearing stories and seeing pictures about how big bulk stores are sheer chaos. Lines going around the block before they are open. Well I decided to brave the situation and head to Costco. Luckily, Yakima County is not one of the three that are under the banning of gatherings of 250 people, because there were plenty more than that there as of noon Saturday. For the record, I'm not a doomsday prepper, and I was not going there for food, toilet paper or large TVs. I was going there to get a new pair of glasses.
As my wife and I walked up to the doors, with our membership cards in hand, they had a giant white board in front listing all the items they were out of. As of noon Saturday (3/14), Costco in Union Gap was out of ALL toilet paper, ALL paper towels, pinto beans, Clorox Disinfected Wipes, Lysol Wipes, sugar, canned corn, canned green beans, Germ-X, rubbing alcohol and hydrogen peroxide. What I wish would have been listed, was that their optical department is closed for the next 30 days or till further notice due to the obvious reason: COVID-19. I will state, the staff was very nice, and apologized for the inconvenience. It was just frustrating and annoying that this was not listed in the front of the building with the rest of the items. They did offer to let me speak to a manager, especially since getting my new prescription glasses was the only thing I came there for, but looking at the madhouse around me, I declined. I did not stick around to check on the pharmacy or tire departments. So if you're needing to go to a Costco for something other than TP, you might want to check to see if that's even a possibility.
