‘Murder Hornets’ Eradicated From Washington!

Five years ago, the Murder Hornet was found in Whatcom County in Washington state.

It’s been a grueling 5 years, but officials believe the nightmare is over.
For now!

I remember first hearing about the murder hornets and remembering back to my childhood when the Africanized “Killer” bees were everywhere in the news.

As a little kid, I was scared.

Heck, 30+ years later, I’m still scared of the killer bees.

No, I’m not talking about the Saturday Night Live pre-cursor to The Blues Brothers, I’m talking about the actual killer bees.

The killer bees were more defensive, faster, and could fly further, even taking out horses and other animals (according to Wikipedia).

Then those fears seemed to dwindle, but then bring on the Murder Hornets!

Thank you for this new form of nightmare fuel!

They are the world’s largest hornet, native to Asia, but made its way to the Pacific Northwest in 2019.

They are vicious, take over other hives, and leave no prisoners.

Then, news of them seemed to fall out of the public attention.

Many, like myself, forgot about them.

A few years later, I wrote a comical article about where they might have gone.

The fact of the matter is, I didn’t care where they went as long as they were gone. They frightened me.

Now word comes that the Murder Hornet has been eradicated from the United States… for now.

This news was reported by The New York Times, among many other publications.

How Were The Murder Hornets Tracked?

Once the normal manpower and search grids were created, traps were laid, and once the hornets were captured, really Mission Impossible-type tech came into play.

Tracking devices were attached to the insect and released.

Officials followed back to their nests and took them out!

State and federal agencies announced that the invasive species is out of the U.S., without any new nests being discovered in the past 3 years.

But they got here once; who is to say they can’t come here again? Hopefully, we’ll be ready!
