The most popular brand in adult entertainment is Vivid Entertainment. Whether it's movies, their website, their models or their products, if it's stamped with the popular Vivid logo, you know you're getting the best. One of Vivid's highlights are their parody films. Now that we're eons away from bad lighting, low angles and cheezy music, these parody films mimic the original with high-budget designs and costumes and are written very well. They're actually funny enough that you can watch these without the adult scenes and it would still be a great parody movie. In fact, many of the parody films have that feature to watch without those scenes.

I had the chance to ask a few question to Axel Braun, director and producer of many of these films including the latest parodies, The Dark Knight XXX: A Porn Parody and AvengersXXX: A Porn Parody, about what it's like to film these and what's next on his list.

What is it about seeing their favorite shows/characters in sexual situations?

Porn sells a fantasy, and parodies simply take the fantasy to to next level. If you're a fan of a character or a show, or a movie, it's fun to see it transposed into a highly sexual reality. The reason why my parodies are successful is that it's obvious that I actually care about the source material, and fans respond to that. I'm one of them.

When casting a parody do you try and find adult stars that are fans of the subject or is it better to use actors that don’t have a close connection to it?

I mainly cast people based on their physical resemblance to the characters. Of course it helps if they are fans, like in the case of Xander Corvus, who was a huge Spider-Man fan and did an extraordinary job with his role, or Aiden Ashley who literally became Catwoman for "The Dark Knight XXX" and stayed in character for the whole shoot.

How close to the original do you try to get?

As close as I can get to the spirit of the characters, and to the look and feel of the source material. That include the shooting style, camera angles, color palettes, editing, music, and of course the costumes. For Batman XXX I went to Europe to get certain specific fabrics and dyes used for the original costumes, which are discontinued in the US.

Have you ever heard from the people you parody?

A very famous mainstream film director emailed me after the release of a parody which spoofed his movie. He had a great sense of humor, and complimented me for my attention to detail. It was a surreal experience, and a tremendous honor. And Andrew Garfield said in an interview that he watched Spider-Man XXX for "inspiration".

Is there any character/movie or show you feel is off limits?

Anything that I feel I couldn't do justice to.

What's the most popular parody ever?

It's a tie between Batman XXX and Star Wars XXX. Luckily, they're both mine :)

Which parody didn't do as well as you thought it would?

They all did really well, actually. To be honest, most of them did a lot better than I expected.

Are you currently working on any new parody films?

I am putting the finishing touches on "Superman vs. Spider-Man XXX", which will be released in November, and I've got a couple dozen really cool projects in the works.

What are the chances of ever doing a video game themed parody film (like a Super Mario Bros)?

Well, at some point I'm gonna run out of superheroes...
