How old is too old for candy?

I guess it really depends on the type of candy.

I enjoyed Valentine's chocolate 8 months later for Halloween. That was okay; it wasn't supposed to be white chocolate, but it pretty much was.

I've also enjoyed expired Pop Rocks. Those mostly popped. You can read that review here.

But how well do Dum Dum suckers and Smarties candies handle the test of time?

While cleaning a back office here at the radio station, I found a box filled with unopened bags of these candies, all with Best By dates of early 2020, some 2019, and one bag of smarties from 2018.

So, how do these expired candies hold up?

Taste Test Of Expired Candy Legal Disclaimer:

This is not a paid advertisement for this brand of candy, and to that note, I'm sure the candy company would advise me against trying them.

Taste Test of 5+ Year Old Expired Candy:

Dum Dum Suckers: I tried the cherry flavor, and I must say, it looked good, smelled good, and tasted great! I would never know that this was a 5-year-old sucker!

Smarties Candy: I've never been a fan of smarties, so it's been a while. These seemed softer than I remember. They didn't really have a smell, but they still looked the same with fun colors (the photo doesn't do the colors justice).

The only thing I noticed, and I don't know if this is because of the type of candy, or it's expired, or if I'm just reaching that age, is that I started getting acid reflux after I ate them.

(Note: It was about an hour between Dum Dum & Smarties taste tests, with water in between).

2nd Opinion Taste Test of 5+ Year Old Expired Candy:

There is no second or third-opinion taste test like I usually do in my Timmy Tries articles. Apparently, they're all Smarties and didn't want to try them, and I'm the Dum Dum who gave them a shot. FOR SCIENCE!

So there you go, these candies DO well after 5 years. I might save one bag and give it another try in 2030. Only time will tell how they taste or if I remember that I'm even saving them.
