PHOTOS: Axe Throwing in Yakima? You Need To Check This Place Out!
I drive on Yakima Ave. several times a week. Each time I pass a place with big windows, chairs on a type of riser, and arcade machines that you can see in the background. I thought it was just laser tag. That's fun; I played a lot when I was younger but never gave it another thought. My sister-in-law is getting married soon, and my wife wanted to do something unique that the four of us would have a blast with. While driving by Tactical Tag, my wife mentioned how we should take her sis axe throwing there. I had no clue that they had that activity there! DONE! I'M IN! LET'S DO IT!
FULL TRANSPARENCY DISCLAIMER
The following is in NO WAY a paid advertisement for this, or against this business, Tactical Tag / Tact-Axe. I paid for the time and use of the Axe Throwing Facilities and equipment (axes) with my own money for myself and my family. I do not expect to be reimbursed for my purchase. I'm just a guy who likes throwing things, and I wanted to share my experience with you. Now that's out of the way, let's take a swing.
The Main Level of Tactical Tag
We walked in and were immediately greeted by Kris and Melissa (owners), and after signing safety waivers and getting the rundown of the place, we went downstairs to the axe-throwing lanes! We booked our spot late at night; lucky for us, we had the lanes all to ourselves.
Once we were downstairs and bought some drinks, Kris reviewed the safety rules and how different games and scoring can be done. He stressed three things: when to and not to throw the axes. When passing the axe to the next thrower, put it on a table so as to not drop it and injure someone's foot, and have comfy CLOSED shoes! As we threw, he helped us with technique and handed out pointers.
This was a blast! No wonder Best Things Washington ranked it one of the best indoor activities to do in our state. If you have ever enjoyed throwing darts at a bar or have gone bowling at Nob Hill Bowl or Minda Lanes, then you will enjoy this. Possibly more so! I was thrilled to find that my arm was not sore the following day (unlike my times with bowling and darts). The technique was easy to learn, and by the end of our hour of playtime, I was hitting the target 9 times out of 10. Mastering it to get a bullseye every time will still take practice.
I told my friends about the experience, and they suggested how that must be great to get the rage out. For some it might be, but I found the more strength I used in throwing, the less likely it'd stick into the target. Plus, if you're angry at the world and filled with rage, please talk to someone instead of throwing sharp objects (a timely tip from Timmy).
Main & Upper Level: Tactical Tag (Laser Tag)
We asked if we could get a tour of the laser tag part of the store, to which he obliged. That was awesome. The group of players, who looked to be in their late teens and early 20s were having a blast, running around, up and down stairs, and ducking behind cover. They were having fun in a safe and controlled environment. That's what counts!
But don't take my word for it; check it out yourself. Their Facebook and Website have all the info you need. Check out pictures from our axe throwing fun and walking through a laser tag battle below.
