Yakima Ducks, ‘Power Couple’ or Public Menace?

‘Power Couple’ or ‘Public Menace’? Last week, we wrote about these ‘cute’ ducks that moved into our area around the corner of 40th and Summitview Avenue, but the truth may be ducking crazy!

The Ducks We Thought We Knew

They’re cute, their waddle has swagger, and they’re a delight to have around… at first. You can read more about the ‘power couple’ that caught our attention last week here, but we have some more questions for these webbed-footed troublemakers!

We’ve seen them at our radio business offices at 4010 Summitiview here in Yakima, but upon sharing the story as a feel-good moment in the news, a darker story began to develop.

“They come to my house for food regularly. I think they come from the Suntides golf course.”

“We have Dianne and Maurice, they have lived in the Fraser Way area for years!”

There you have it, are they Dianne and Maurice, or are they Howard and Daphne? They have many aliases and are panhandling all over the city for bread (money in duck world).

I thought back to the last time I saw them, IN MY POOL LAST YEAR! Not only was it a breaking and entering, but they disturbed my poor little dog, and I can’t be quite certain, but SOME birds left a mess on the roof of my house, so bad that it led to me getting a new roof (see details of that here).

So I ask one more time, are these ducks Yakima’s new “power couple” or Yakima’s latest menace?
