"Weird Al" Yankovic turns 61-years-old today. I thought I'd celebrate by sharing some of my experiences with one of my all time idols. Including bringing you the audio from my interview I was lucky enough to conduct with "The Weird One" back 6 years ago. Al was releasing his album Mandatory Fun, which was his first album to reach number one on the billboard charts. I'm not saying I had anything to do with that, but I did buy 3 copies of the album, and was the only interview he's done with me before an album's release.

My first introduction to Al was with his 1985 album Dare To Be Stupid. My dad had it on vinyl and would play it for little four-year-old me often. I was actually introduced to the song "YODA" before I ever saw or could comprehend Star Wars. I'll tell you, if you're young, and have no idea who Luke, the force, Darth Vader, or Yoda is and you hear that song... with your little kid brain, you're going to think the song is about a bully. Making someone lift rocks while standing on their head, and then lecturing to them. Sounds very cruel to someone knows only the muppets.

Since then he has always been in one of my top spots of favorite artists. I'm proud to say that I've met him in person twice at concert meet & greets, but if you've ever been in one of those types of events, they're usually very fast paced and not very personal. I was over the moon when I was given the opportunity to actually have a one on one conversation with my idol & to help celebrate his big 6-1, I'm sharing it with you. Check out the interview below and you'll also see the different pictures of the meet & greets mixed in the video. Happy Birthday Al!
