Labor Day Weekend is upon us. Time for one last three-day summer fling with cookouts, campouts, ice-cold beer, and taking a break.

Unfortunately, there will be no break from the smoke in the air over the Yakima Valley and the National Weather Service is reporting an AIR QUALITY ALERT for potentially hazardous smoke in the air, at least through 12 PM on Tuesday.

What Areas are Affected by the Air Quality Alert?

According to the Alert posted on the NWS website, the warning includes:

Grandview, Sunnyside, Toppenish, Yakima, Granger, Mabton, Selah, Wapato, White Swan, Zillah, Naches, and Cliffdell.

The Washington State Department of Ecology has issued an Air Quality Alert

They warn that:

A Smoke Air Quality Alert has been issued. Wildfires burning in the region combined with forecasted conditions will cause air quality to reach unhealthy levels.

Pollutants in smoke can cause burning eyes...runny nose...aggravate heart and lung diseases...and aggravate other serious health problems.  Limit outdoor activities and keep children indoors if it is smoky. Please follow medical advice if you have a heart or lung condition.

Where to Find Current Air Quality Information for Yakima and Washington

The Department of Ecology website has extensive information about the air in Washington State. There you will see a helpful map that indicates current Air Quality Index numbers and what they mean. For instance, Yakima's air quality index or AQI on Friday morning at 6 AM was 277. That's considered Very Unhealthy air quality.

LOOK: Best Beers From Every State

To find the best beer in each state and Washington D.C., Stacker analyzed January 2020 data from BeerAdvocate, a website that gathers user scores for beer in real-time. BeerAdvocate makes its determinations by compiling consumer ratings for all 50 states and Washington D.C. and applying a weighted rank to each. The weighted rank pulls the beer toward the list's average based on the number of ratings it has and aims to allow lesser-known beers to increase in rank. Only beers with at least 10 rankings to be considered; we took it a step further to only include beers with at least 100 user rankings in our gallery. Keep reading to find out what the best beer is in each of the 50 states and Washington D.C.
