Taco Bell Recreated A Classic, But How Does It Hold Up?
Well, one of my fat guy wishes just came true. An item I used to eat several times a week when I worked as a medical courier and drove all over Washington State, has finally come back! But is it as good as I remember?
THE TASTE TESTING REVIEWING LEGAL STUFF!
Here's my little disclaimer so that everyone knows I'm not taking money from any of the big fast-food chains. This is in NO WAY a paid advertisement for or against Taco Bell or its parent company, Yum! Brands. My wife's friend told her about a new chicken sandwich, to which my wife researched and asked me if it was the same one I loved (and lost), and I was intrigued! For lunch today, I drove to the border (because that old slogan of "run to the border" doesn't make sense when it's currently snowing), and I purchased 3 of them with my own money. I am reviewing this food without compensation or promise of payment in any form.
A Little History Of This Flatbread Chicken Concoction.
I couldn't remember when I was eating them for dinner several times a week (one of the pains of driving for a living), but I know it was around, then gone for 6 years, and now it's back. Thank goodness the Taco Bell Wiki exists to fill in my memory gap. The Chicken Flatbread Sandwich debuted in 2010 for a limited time, then again in June 2016. It looks like it is back in a new form, but how does it taste?
TASTE TEST OF TACO BELL 3 CHEESE CHICKEN FLATBREAD MELT
It tastes the same, maybe a little better. The ingredients are the same as they were in the past. All white meat chicken, Chipotle Sauce, and a 3-cheese blend. Why would it taste better? Mainly because you get more of it. The earlier versions were a smaller square flatbread folded in half, whereas this is rounded and flour tortilla-sized.
NOTE: When they took my flatbread chicken sandwich away (again) in 2016, I started enjoying their chicken quesadilla. They are pretty close in taste. The quesadilla is less spicy (to me) because it uses jalapeno sauce vs the flatbread's chipotle.
2ND OPINION OF THE TACO BELL 3 CHEESE CHICKEN FLATBREAD MELT
Sadly, there is no 2nd opinion taste test this time around… because I ate them all. Will this be a permanent fixture on TB's menu? Only time will tell, but I hope so. After all, they brought back the Mexican Pizza for good, why not this one?
Will I eat this again? Yep! Luckily, since I'm no longer driving for a living, I doubt I'll eat nearly as much as I did several years ago. Will you try it, or have you already?
