Three wild chickens are on the loose in Yakima and some are calling it fowl play. Yes, "fowl" play is afoot because the three chickens were recently spotted on Tieton Drive lollygagging around the gorgeous Franklin Middle School lawn. Sixth-grade students were entering the school building for middle school orientation day when the chickens were first spotted. The first of the three wild chickens was spotted alone on the school property around 7:58 a.m. on Wednesday.

The other two chickens were seen pecking around the Franklin Middle School grass around 11 a.m. later that morning. The three chickens appear to be in healthy shape and likely have wandered off someone's property that lives nearby. They are so cute, though. I hope they wandered their way back home.

IS IT LEGAL TO OWN CHICKENS IN THE CITY OF YAKIMA?

It used to be illegal for Yakima city residents to have more than four chickens at a time and none of them were allowed to leave their human's property. Roosters were also not allowed to be owned within city limits either. Let us see if times may have changed since 2020.

"6.20.046 Poultry at large.
It is unlawful for any person who, as an owner of ducks, geese, turkeys, chickens, or other poultry, permits the same to run at large in the city of Yakima. A violation of this section is a misdemeanor." - City of Yakima Animal Control

Uh-oh, the plot chickens! Looks as though we might start calling these three chickens The 3 Outlaws. With a Z on the end. Fly away, girls, fly like the wind!
