Extra! Extra! Yakima Humane Society Needs Your Newspaper!

The Yakima Humane Society has had a spectacular run in the past few months.

It has been great, from bringing many animals together with their humans and finding them new forever homes to winning the national prize and being named champion of March Muttness!

But that doesn't mean they still can't use help.

The Yakima Humane Society has put out a request that might seem odd to many people, but it makes total sense.

Newspaper? Why are they in need of newspaper?

The answer to that question is simple: for the messes.

The Yakima Humane Society uses newspapers to line its animals' kennels, cages, and boxes, helping to catch and absorb the messes the animals create.

Word has it that YHS received excess paper from the Yakima Herald-Republic, but that source is no longer available.

What about the funds raised from the national donation competition?

YHS plans to invest the donations from the March Muttness victory towards different shelter programs and the spay and neuter clinics.

In a time when money is tight throughout the valley, you can imagine that they'd instead use the donations for substantial programs than on products meant to be thrown away.

The hope is that the public can donate their newspaper instead of discarding it in the garbage.
