Yakima City Council Talks COVID On Tuesday

The Yakima City Council meets for a regular agenda meeting Tuesday in which they're expected to extend the most recent COVID-19 emergency proclamation. The current order  expires on January 5. City officials say if the Mayor issues a proclamation extending the emergency proclamation it'll expire on February 2. The proclamation allows the city to be eligible for state and federal COVID-19 relief.
Council members on Tuesday will talk about the second round of Community Development Block Grant - COVID relief funds. The City expects $495,195 for programs and $123,798 for administrative costs in round two.
Two community centers are expected to benefit from the funding. The city will use a portion of the money to improve air quality systems at two community centers, Henry Beauchamp Community Center and Washington Fruit Community Center at a total cost of $260,000. The remainder of the funding will be for food relief such as Meals on Wheels and transportation of elderly residents.
The council will also proclaim the National Holiday to honor Martin Luther King Jr. King Day of Service in Yakima on January 18.
