Yakima Man Not Sure How Much Something Costs At Dollar Store
Okay, first off, yes, I know the store is the 'Dollar Tree'.
The headline was supposed to be tongue-in-cheek.
But when I saw the item scanner, I died a little inside.
Yes, I know all of this is very 'first world problems,' and I'm going to sound like the old cranky man shaking his fist and telling kids to 'get off my porch.'
But remember the good old days when you could go to The Dollar Tree, aka the unofficial dollar store, and buy something for a dollar (before tax)?
Yeah, those were the good old days about 6 years ago.
Then they bumped it up to $1.25, prompting many dad jokes of 'The Dollar Twenty-Five Tree'.
Then, 2 years ago, Dollar Tree started selling items for $3, $4, and $5.
I haven't noticed anything much higher, and a majority of their items are still a $1.25, which, to be honest, still is a good deal.
But then, the other day, I saw this:
I laughed out loud in the store, and then I felt sad and shook my head.
This tells me (just a thought, nothing confirmed) that the days of The Dollar Twenty-Five Tree are going to be fewer and fewer.
No, not that they're going out of business, not by any means (they just opened up another location earlier this year), but the drinks, snacks, toys, wrapping paper, party supplies, and holiday decorations might start bumping up in price soon.
21 Items For Dollar Store Holiday Savings!
We've already seen higher priced items for sale, and the store is usually well labeled, but with this scanner in the store, that tells me things are going to change and get more confusing.
I have my fingers crossed that the cost of stuff (nationwide) will start going down, including rent, gas, eggs, and packages of gummy bears that I load up on every time I stop by the unofficial dollar store.
