Happy Anniversary Timmy! Celebrating 25 Years on 94.5 KATS!
Few people can say that they're working their dream job.
And even fewer of those people can say that they have been doing it for 25 years!
I'm proud to say that I am one of those very select few.
I've wanted to be on the radio since I was 3 years old.
Some of my earliest memories are listening to the KATS morning show Dave & Tom or The Breakfast Flakes while waiting for my mom to get home from her night nursing job and my dad getting ready to go to his job at Talcott Music.
I've had the radio bug all my life, and am proud that I'm 3rd generation radio, after my grandfather Dave, my uncle Bryan, and several other family members have put in some time under the 'cans' and behind the mic.
I was officially hired on September 19th, 1999, and my first on-air shift was September 30th to October 1st (graveyard shift).
I was so nervous! Besides achieving a life-long goal at 18, it was my first job where I wasn't picking fruit, selling fruit, or cleaning the aftermath after someone ate too much fruit.
Keep in mind, I'm proud of my work in the orchards, Thompson's Fruit in Naches, and the several custodial jobs I had. I learned so much, and it helped mold me. But radio was my dream.
In the 25 years, I've met a lot of great people, some famous, some not so much.
I've been able to Interview my idols! I am very blessed and grateful.
Worked side by side with tremendous talent.
There are some things that definitely make me just shake my head and smile in bewilderment.
I have worked in radio for longer than I have NOT worked in radio.
And I have spent more time in the 94.5 KATS studio than I have at any other place that I've lived.
The fact that there are adults who have never known a world without The Simpsons, Harry Potter, cellphones, microwaves, or Timmy on KATS.
To the many amazing people who gave me a chance, showed me the ropes, and helped me along the way, like Ron Harris, Todd Lyons, Jessika James, Jack Balzer, & Brian Stephenson... Thank you!
And those who are no longer with us, like my radio teacher Randy Beckstead, the man who kept me in the industry Jim Trap, & the round mound of sound Charlie Busch, you are fondly remembered.
And to everyone who has listened, sang along to a song, or laughed at a fart joke, thank you! Here's to another 25 years!
